Network Management Engineer

The Network Management team are responsible for the management and support of the toolset that monitor and operate the GRB global network estate.
The toolsets and technologies deployed consist of the following:
• HP Openview Network Node Manager v8
• Cisco works
• TACACS
• NetQoS
• BMC Bladelogic Network Automation
• Intellitatics
• Juniper Netscreen Manager
• Nokia Checkpoint Manager
• Infoblox DNS / DHCP
• NetScout probes
• Niksun probes
• Cisco routers and switches
• Juniper firewalls
• Checkpoint firewalls
• F5 load balancers
The primary responsibilities of the Network Management Engineers are detailed below:
1. Management and support of the toolsets:
a. Toolset incident management
b. Toolset change implementation
c. Acceptance into Run
i. Project / BAU requests (Add / Amend / Delete devices to toolsets)
ii. New toolsets
d. NMS user access process
e. NMS toolsets availability and capacity monitoring
f. NMS toolsets maintenance and back-ups
g. Toolset alerting and report template configuration
2. Training of users on NMS systems
3. Management and development of Logical Access Management controls
4. Toolset Infrastructure development requirements
5. System recovery plans
6. Define operational functional requirements for toolsets
7. Define toolset service definition (what capability does the toolset provide)
8. Ensure adherence to Barclay’s policies, standards and controls
9. Assist the Network Support team to proactively manage the Bank GRB network estate using various management tools (HP OpenView, Juniper NSM, Nokia Horizon Manager, Checkpoint Provider 1 NetQoS etc).
10. Ensure that they actively participate in their own development and contribute to ensuring that their understanding of technology is current in line with their job description.
11. Represent the Bank network support team at technical and management meetings as required.
12. Take responsibility and actively contribute to driving service improvement within Network Services and strive to offer the best level of available service to our customer base.
13. Act as technical first point of contact internally and externally for technical queries and escalate as appropriate.
14. Operate within and contribute towards the success of the global implementation team ensuring that the overall capability of the team is leveraged.
15. Contribute to the Design, development, implementation and continuous improvement of processes, controls and service levels for managing business as usual changes within Global Networks
16. Maximise the use of toolsets and automation.
9. Certification or equivalent experience on broad range of network and network monitoring toolsets
10. Experience of using the toolsets described in key accountabilities section of this job description.
11. In depth knowledge of TCP/SNMP
12. Knowledge of Solaris (Unix) operating systems and Windows Server operating systems
13. Knowledge of Cisco routers, switches, load balancers, wide area application services
14. Practical experience of live operational enterprise network environments, preferably some of which has been gained in banking or other financial sector environment.
15. Understanding of service operation in a network environment, with particular emphasis on change implementation.
16. Has worked in or is qualified with ITIL practices.
17. Can demonstrate through evidence that they have contributed to their own learning and development throughout their career.
18. Is able to communicate effectively at differing levels of expertise in business environments.
19. Can demonstrate logical problem solving techniques, backed by tenacity to resolve customer problems.
