Windows Infrastructure & Support / Windows Support Engineer

Over all job purpose:
The controlled resolution of incidents and problems (deviations from planned or expected infrastructure component or system behaviour) including: classification, prioritization and initiation of action, documentation of root causes and implementation of remedies. This also includes:
• close liaison with the Change/Configuration/Release Management
• knowledge and use of the change/configuration management system
• the drawing in of specialized expertise wherever appropriate, and the provision of advice and information aimed at minimizing the occurrence and impact of service incidents through process improvement.
The implementation of all changes to the components of a live infrastructure, from request for change or project initiation through to deployment and review, to support the continued availability, effectiveness and risk compliance of the infrastructure.
Technical knowledge on the following:
Proficient in Infrastructure Platforms
The implementation and management of infrastructure platforms or components that host specific business applications or services.
Examples: Mainframe, Tandem, Unix, Windows, Storage Technologies, Databases, Middleware, Systems Management, Capacity Management and Infrastructure Risk/Security Management.
Proficient in Networking and Communications
The planning and management of the interaction between two or more networking systems, computers or other "intelligent" devices. Examples: ISDN, ATM, Ethernet, TCP/IP.
Proficient in Operating Systems
"System" software which controls activities such as input, output, dynamic resource allocation, and error reporting, within the operation of a computer configuration.
Examples: MVS, AIX, Windows 2000
Proficient in Operating Infrastructure
Knowledge of the ICT infrastructure (hardware, databases, operating systems, local area networks etc) used within own organization.
Proficient in Corporate, Industry and Professional Standards
Standards associated with the infrastructure technician’s current Role.
Examples: safety standards, departmental scripting standards, organizational network performance standards, help desk procedures, corporate quality and change management processes, IT Infrastructure Library.
Familiar with Test Management Techniques
Principles, methods, techniques and tools for the effective management of the testing process and the execution of tests throughout the Operations Acceptance cycle of application development or infrastructure enhancement projects.
Examples: organisation standards for testing, planning & estimating, configuration management, incident management, test efficiency and effectiveness measurement.
Familiar with Infrastructure Architecture
The frameworks and principles on which networks, systems, equipment and infrastructure resources are based.
Examples: Windows NT, UNIX, Oracle, TDM, ATM, TCP/IP.
Knowledge of the Bank’s products, services and policies and/or other specialist knowledge required to undertake the role:
The jobholder must have a thorough awareness of the banks products, services and business.
The jobholder will have a detailed understanding and knowledge of how the Bank builds and operates its computer and communications systems, the technical architectures and the nature of the work demand portfolio, so that they are fully aware of the impact of their own work on the Bank
The jobholder will be fully proficient in IT tools, techniques and services relevant to their knowledge area and have a broad awareness of those used throughout other areas.
